Microsoft's Internet Explorer 4.0 + Web Browsing Tips

Navigation with Internet Explorer 4.0 is a little weird if this is your first time using 4.0+ browsers, but you'll get the hang of it if you remember the following things:
  • How to type in a URL
  • How to move back and forth between pages
  • How to add a site to your Favorites list
  • How to go back to a site using your Favorites list
  • Using History
  • How to use it to get to mail and news

How to Type in a URL

Find the URL in the Address: field.
Highlight the URL with your mouse
Replace it with the URL of the place you want to go.
Hit Enter, and you're on your way.

How to move back and forth from page to page

The Back button allow you to go back to the page you just visited.

The Forward button allows you to move forward after you clicked the Back button.

How to add a site to your Favorites list

Go to the site you want to add.
Click on the Favorites button and select "Add to Favorites."

How to go back to a site using your Favorites list

That's simple - from the Favorites list, select the website you want to visit.

Using History

This button is very handy. Let's say you visited this really cool site three days ago, but you can't remember where it was, and you didn't add it to your Favorites list. Simply click on the History button to view a list of all the sites you've visited during the period the browser has recorded.

How to use it to get to mail and news

If you've used IE 3.0 before, you'll probably be familiar with Internet Mail and News. This program has had a lot of new features included in it and is now called Outlook Express. You can get to it quickly by the Go pulldown menu in IE 4.0.

You can download Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 free as well as other
